St. Patrick’s Day of celebration is here. What better way to remember this day than to hear the music from the West of Ireland with passionate vocals and dazzling instrumentals?

On Saturday, 7:30 p.m., at Laxson Auditorium, Chico Performances will present the Irish traditional music band Dervish.

This renowned band has appeared on stages throughout the world. Audiences are left spellbound and filled with excitement, resulting in this Irish band being one of the most sought after acts internationally.

Top music magazines have awarded Dervish “Best Overall Irish Roots” act on several occasions in their 27 years together. Dervish grew up together as friends in Ireland’s creativity capital, Sligo.

It’s mountains, glens and windswept shore have long been the source of inspiration for Irish artistry.

Beginning as a group of musicians playing the local tunes of Sligo in bars, Dervish now has a worldwide devoted audience. Now, with four of the original members still at the helm, Dervish are more in demand than ever.

The dazzling virtuosity of award-winning instrumentalists Tom Morrow on fiddle, Liam Kelly on flute and Shane Mitchell on accordion, also includes the beguiling voice and appealing stage presence of Cathy Jordan.

Her stories to the songs and interaction with audiences draws people into the music.

Other Dervish musicians are Brian McDonagh on mandola and mandolin and Michael Holmes on bouzouki.

Dervish will be joined by the legendary Irish fiddle player Kevin Burk as a special guest at this performance. He has solid Sligo roots and a pioneer of the Sligo style of Irish traditional music.
