Dervish at the Dogwood Center Share: River Country Chamber of Commerce of Newaygo Count

Traditional Irish group Dervish will perform at the Dogwood Center on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. From Slingo in Northwest Ireland, Dervish has long stood at the forefront of traditional Irish groups. Their music spans from high energy tunes played with intuitive fluidity to beautifully measured songs, to charming lyrics of life and love to inspiring melodies to life audiences from their seats.

All of Dervish’s musical elements are drawn together by vocalist Cathy Jordan’s masterful stage presence. Her stories to the songs and interaction with the audience draw people into the music in a way very few performers can achieve.

Along with Jordan’s charismatic vocals comes the dazzling virtuosity of award winning instrumentalists like Tom Morrow on fiddle, Liam Kelly on flute, Shane Mitchell on accordion, Brian McDonagh on mandolin, and Michael Holmes on bouzouki.

Their international career has taken them to every corner of the globe and has seen them share the stage with such names as James Brown, Sting, REM, The Buena Vista Social Club, and many more. Dervish is a band that both celebrates Irish music and has been instrumental in bringing it to a worldwide audience.

The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box. Tickets are $17.50 and are available through the Dogwood Center Box Office, NCCA-Artsplace in downtown Fremont, or on-line at www.dogwoodcenter.com. For information, phone 231.924.8885. The Dogwood Center is located one mile east of downtown Fremont.
